About Noctis Biotech

Dr. Gina Toadstool

Founder & Scientific Director, Noctis Biotech

Dr. Gina Toadstool is the founder and scientific director of Noctis Biotech, an independent research institute investigating the spatial organization of immune tolerance in chiropteran (bat) systems. Her work examines how bats achieve lifelong viral coexistence through architectural precision within their immune microenvironments — a field she has termed comparative spatial immunodynamics.

Dr. Toadstool earned her B.S. in Biomedical Systems Analysis from DeVry University, where she completed her senior thesis on “Acoustic Variables in Virtual Cell Networks.” She credits a formative experience at a Black Sabbath reunion concert as the moment she began perceiving biology as fundamentally rhythmic. “Ozzy hit a frequency that restructured something in me,” she later told Cell Reports. That synesthetic moment would guide her future work, leading her to explore the idea that immune systems operate less like defense mechanisms and more like orchestras — structured noise maintaining perfect chaos.

After several post-academic fellowships and collaborations in theoretical pathology, Dr. Toadstool established Noctis Biotech to pursue high-dimensional, non-commercial research on immune equilibrium. Her group integrates multiplex imaging, spatiotemporal transcriptomics, and computational topology to create four-dimensional tissue atlases mapping how immune coordination fluctuates with time, temperature, and sound.
